Finding Your Perfect Morning Routine

Finding Your Perfect Morning Routine - Join me as I discuss how I finally discovered my perfect morning routine. After years of attempting to force myself to become a morning person.....

Hey Curlies,
I have been attempting to build a lasting morning routine for years and failing miserably. Since I am not a morning person it has been increasingly difficult to wake up in the morning before 7am and even 7am is pushing it. I love the idea of waking up early and having the early hours of the day to myself before the world wakes up. Being able to get into work before everyone else and enjoy the peace and quiet for about two hours. Sadly that just isn’t a reality for me, and finally I had to accept that.

Accepting My Limitations

After 4 years of attempting to force myself to wake up at 6am, I have finally accepted my limitations. I am not a morning person. I may never be a morning person and that’s alright. Once I accepted that I was a morning person, it was easy to figured out how I should plan my mornings and possibly adjust my work time.

First, I decided that I would go into work at 10am. Of course this means I would get off later, but I would have the time needed to complete certain tasks in the morning while not having to be in bed at 10pm or something crazy like that.  Second, I sat down and decided on what I wanted to accomplish in the morning before going to work, and listed them in ranking order. Finally, I determined the number of minutes each task might take to complete and decided when I should start my mornings. After some deep thought, I decided to wake up between 730 – 800am. Waking up at 8am would provide me with enough time to complete everything I want while allowing me some sleep in time, and waking up at 730am just allows some extra free time to just sit and do absolutely nothing.

Designing My Mornings

My mornings are divided in half because it just makes sense to me logically: Me Time and Getting Ready for Work. Me Time occurs from 730am-9am while Getting Ready for Work is from 900-950am.

Me Time:
– Wake
– Feed the Dog
– Stretch/Yoga with slight cardio
– Check the blog and social media
– Spend some time with Christ
– Make & Eat Breakfast while making Lunch

Get Ready for Work:
– Hygiene Routine (Shower, Face, blah blah blah)
– Clothes
– Pack Work Bag
– Walk Dog
– Walk to Work

I have been using this morning routine for the last week and it is going well. Just from stretching in the morning I have slightly more energy and that’s great especially with me doing a second round of Whole30.

Have you made any adjustments to your morning routine? Has it been life changing? Just remember that you don’t have to wake up at 5am if your body isn’t into it. Just make the best with the time you have!
