Organzing and Planning My Day to Day

Living an organized life is essential for my sanity, as a result, I attempt to organize my day as much as possible. In my attempt to organize my day, I complete specific events the night before. One day I realized that for my days to be productive and organized, planning ahead is a must. Here are the steps I follow to ensure my days to plan.

1. Planning the Night Before

To make sure I am prepared for the next day, I plan out my day the night before. Each night, I sit down and plan out what needs to occur in my day. At work before I leave, I make a list of items to be complete, appointments, and things I want to get done. Then I number them in order of importance. For work, at the end of the work day, I plan out the tasks for the next day based on the category.

2. Complete More Important Items First

On the list of items, I complete the more important and more difficult task first. Over time, I learned that my energy has the tendency to wane through the day. As a result, completing the more difficult task first ensure that I finish the day strong.

3. Set Alerts for Appointments and Events that Must Occur by a Specific Time

I use calendar alerts and alarms on my phone as reminders to those events that need to occur by a certain time. The calendar app on the iPhone has a handy ability to be able to enable to drive time into an appointment event. I am horrible with being on time to events so the alert and alarm features ensure that I make it to my appointments.

4. Complete Certain Recurring Items on Certain Days

I assign certain items in my life (even work tasks) a specific day and time. I treat my household chores such as washing clothes as an appointment. I have learned that if I generically say “Clean the House”, I will move that event all over the place. As a result, I break cleaning the house down into smaller, more manageable events and separate them out all over the week.

5. Lay out My Clothes, and Prep to Leave for Work the Night Before

I prefer to lay out my clothes for the week, but I need a clothing rack, or shelf placed in my room. By laying out my clothing for the week, I eliminate the brain space required to handle that task. This frees up space for other tasks. The same principle applies for ensuring that your work bag, umbrella, coat, etc is ready when you are.

How about you guys? How do you organize and maintain your daily life? Leave a message in comments. I would love to hear from you.
